Managing Your Notifications
Karmyq's notification system is split into two streams: community and provider. This separation means providers aren't distracted by unrelated community pings while doing provider work, and community members aren't confused by provider-only alerts.
The Two Notification Bells
If you have a provider profile, you'll see two notification indicators in the top nav:
| Indicator | Color | Stream |
|---|---|---|
| Bell icon | Red badge | Community notifications |
| Briefcase icon | Amber badge | Provider notifications |
If you don't have a provider profile, only the community bell is shown.
Community Notifications
These appear in the red bell and cover mutual aid activity:
| Type | When it fires |
|---|---|
| Match offer | Someone offered to help with your request |
| Match completed | A match was marked fulfilled |
| Karma awarded | You received karma points |
| Karma milestone | You hit a karma milestone (10, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000) |
| New request | A community member posted a new help request |
| Join request | Someone asked to join your community (admins only) |
Provider Notifications
These appear in the amber briefcase and cover service provider activity:
| Type | When it fires |
|---|---|
| Pre-selected | A requester selected you as their preferred provider |
| Request matched | A new request matching your service type was posted |
| Review received | A client left a review on your provider profile |
| Commitment reminder | It's time to head to a scheduled pickup or session |
Provider notifications only fire when they require your attention — you won't get a notification every time any request is posted, only those that match your service type.
Opening a Notification Stream
Click the bell or briefcase to open a dropdown showing that stream's recent notifications. Each notification shows:
- Title and summary
- How long ago it was received
- A call-to-action button linking to the relevant page
Click Mark all read to clear the unread badge for that stream.
Volume Philosophy
Karmyq is intentionally quiet. Notifications only fire when they are action-driving: a match proposed, a review left, a milestone hit. You won't be pinged for passive events (profile views, feed impressions, generic community activity). The goal is that every notification you see is something worth responding to.
